Atabay is producer of Paracetamol since 1965 and has very basic and clean process starting from nitrobenzene, followed by catalytic hydrogenation using locally produced hydrogen to paraaminophenol. Para aminophenol is acetylated by acetic anhydride to make Paracetamol. The crude paracetamol produced this way is crystallized in deionised water and purified paracetamol is obtained. In this process halogenated aromatic compounds are not used, so formation of toxic halogenated aromatics like parachloroacetanilide is not possible. Atabay’s Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) Plant has been FDA approved since 1986. The plant has been audited many times by FDA, EU authorities and many customers.
Atabay presently is the sole producer of Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) in Europe. It is also in the European pharmacopeia.
